Why Marblehead

Beyond Marblehead

Marblehead is so ideal, you may never want to leave. But, when you do, there are plenty of wonderful, convenient and fascinating destinations. Click Here for a map of the region.

We're only about 18 miles from Boston, a world-class city known for its business and cultural centers...theaters, restaurants, museums, colleges and universities. The commute to Boston in the height of rush hour traffic is about an hour by car.

Marblehead is fortunate to have convenient access to transportation services including train, MBTA and air. The commuter rail to North Station in Boston can be picked up in Salem (12 minute drive to the station, then a 35 minute train ride) or in Swampscott (10 minutes to the station and about 27 minutes to Boston). You can take the Blue Line of the MBTA (the "T") into Boston from Wonderland Station in Revere (a 30 minute drive from Marblehead, then about a 17 minute subway ride to the center of Boston). Bus service is available to Swampscott, Lynn and Boston. And there is special service called "The Ride" available for the elderly and challenged.

Our location on the North Shore makes it more convenient for Logan International Airport, about a half-hour to our south. Beverly Municipal Airport, a half-hour to our north, is open to smaller planes.

Marblehead is also fortunate to be next door to another cultural city. The City of Salem is home to the Peabody-Essex Museum, the largest and oldest private museum in the country, filled with riches from the Clipper Ship days when Salem Harbor was busier and more prosperous than Boston Harbor, in addition to The House of Seven Gables, Pioneer Village, the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, the Witch Museum, the Pirate Museum, shopping, restaurants, hotels, and more.

When it comes to healthcare, we are located just minutes away from Salem Hospital. The hospital opened a new Emergency Center and Surgi-Center, and more recently a new Cardiac Care Unit. There is also an emergency walk-in center located in neighboring Swampscott. The center is operated by North Shore Medical Center which also operates Salem Hospital.

Marblehead has a Community Counseling Center and several nursing homes. Within a half-hour's drive are three major shopping malls.
